Getting a new website is a big deal

Getting a new website

We just had a client meeting, and the day after, they sent us an email. Oh, we forgot to mention, we’re getting a new website.

Well, that is a big deal. I mean, getting a new website when you never had one is a big deal, but getting an existing website redone is an even bigger deal. Doing all the work, rebranding, new message, new backend. That’s a lot of work and a lot of costs, but there is a lot more than that.

For starters, in our case, we’re running paid ads to the current website. There’s a good chance that things change. They shouldn’t. If your web developer is worth its salt, he’ll keep the URLs the same, or sets up redirects. He would copy the tracking pixels across and make sure all conversions are still working.

Unfortunately, that is not always the case. I can’t tell you how many clients we worked with that “forgot” to tell us that they’re getting a new website.

We generally find out pretty quickly, especially if the web developer didn’t do a good job. How? Google Ads get disapproved because the landing page disappeared. We can fix that pretty quickly, but it is annoying for everyone and interrupts the flow of things. And usually costs some money in fixing things, but also in lost ad spend, and in additional ad spend to get the account back to where it was, because now the machine has to relearn what’s going on.

But what’s even worse is when the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) wasn’t done right. New URL structure, No redirects, pages have gone missing, 404 errors, completely new text, no H1 tags, less content on the page, fewer pages. That can get your website from the first page to page 10 within days.

SO yes, getting a website is a big deal.
If you are thinking of getting a new website, let us know, so we can be in the loop and make sure things are getting done correctly.

To your success
